Radiological interventions in the female pelvis are now widely accepted for the treatment of various gynecological and obstetric disorders. This volume provides a comprehensive and very detailed review of the performance and role of such interventions. Particular attention is devoted to the minimally invasive technique of uterine artery embolization, which has become a reference procedure in the management of life-threatening postpartum hemorrhage and symptomatic uterine fibroids. Other procedures currently under investigation for the treatment of fibroids are also considered in depth, including magnetic resonance imaging-guided focused ultrasound, transvaginal uterine artery clamping, and radiofrequency ablation. Further chapters are devoted to a range of techniques that are gaining increasing acceptance in the medical community, including fallopian tube recanalization, fallopian tube occlusion, embolization of pelvic varices in the context of pelvic congestion syndrome, and ovarian cyst aspiration. Due attention is paid to geographical variations in gynecological interventions, with individual chapters on current practice in Europe, North America, and developing countries.
