About the author Li Shizhen was born into a family of practicing acupuncturists. After working in the acupuncture department of Nanyang People's Hospital, he was appointed director of the TCM department of the hospital and professor at the Zhang Zhongjing TCM Medical University, later also becoming vice-president of the Zhang Zhongjing Academy. His other books on acupuncture include Clinical Acupuncture: Pattern Identification and Treatment, Acupuncture: A Clinical Guide and Acupuncture Case Studies. He has regularly visited Japan and Korea to give lectures and master classes.
